Online Safety by Grade 5

One of our main goals for students with technology is to apply the skills of global citizenship and online safety.  We carry these safety rules into the real world, practicing our 5Bs:

Be here, Be kind, Be safe, Be respectful, Be productive.

Clicky, a NetSmartz.org character, shares how to be safe in the real world and in the online world. Fifth grade students watched several short videos, two of them twice, and took notes. We discussed the implications and enjoyed "Click Click"-ing our clues.

The next day, students used their notes to write paragraphs for safety on a Google Presentation, editing their work before sketching a simple line drawing to match their slide. I took the pictures of their sketches with my iPhone to add to our presentation to you: Be Safe Online.

I hope you learn and enjoy what we learned from Clicky, the NetSmartz.org character. Please notice that Rickle (pseudonym) placed a citation to NetSmartz.org on his slide for us. He said, "Ms Edwards, I need to add that link to tell my source." No reminders: he just knew we needed to cite our sources! We are kind, respectful, safe, and productive citizens in our online world!

Netsmartz.org also has information for parents -- check it out !

Did you learn anything from our slideshow?
